DailyNews, the University of Windsor’s e-newsletter, is getting a makeover.
In addition to an updated look, the new format uses the Drupal content management system to handle subscriptions and distribution.
“Our previous system dated back to Lotus Notes,” says Marcin Pulcer, manager of web services and systems support in Information Technology Services. “We were overdue for an update.”
The biggest change readers will notice is that subscribers will receive the entire publication in their email inboxes, rather than having to click through to a website. The new programming also improves navigation, support for video, and functionality on mobile devices.
John Coleman, director of Public Affairs and Communications, hopes that the revamp will help the publication expand its readership.
“Besides helping to keep the campus informed, DailyNews is an important vehicle for sharing stories about the wonderful accomplishments of our faculty and students,” Coleman says. “The new interface will make it easier to increase its reach.”
The new system will be in place for the next edition on Thursday, December 21. IT Services hopes to avoid any glitches, but the changeover may mean some subscribers fail to receive it, or that some non-subscribers will have it pop up in their mailbox.
