Events to raise awareness of accessibility issues

The Office of Human Rights, Equity and Accessibility (OHREA) invites the campus community to attend the 9th annual Accessibility Awareness Days event. The format this year will involve five live, virtual workshops, held each Tuesday in March from 11:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Accessibility manager Cherie Gagnon says the event is intended to assist staff, students, and faculty discover the many ways that the University is working towards accessibility and inclusion. Participants will learn about making the classroom accessible, technology solutions, accessibility in the built environment, and mental health supports for the campus community.

Featured topics will include:

  • March 1 – Universal Design for Learning and Accommodations
  • March 8 – Technology Tools
  • March 15 – Accessible Places and Spaces
  • March 22 – Intersectionality and Disability (In partnership with EDI week.)
  • March 29 – Mental Health Supports

“Some of these sessions will allow for the sharing of personal experiences to better understand accessibility from an equity, diversity, and inclusivity perspective and to learn what each of us can do to be better allies,” says Gagnon. “We all have a role to play in making our campus welcoming to all.”
