Science has plenty of reasons to celebrate

The Faculty of Science has plenty of reasons to celebrate, and a spotlight was shone on about 100 of them Friday.

The faculty held its annual Celebration of Success at Vanier Hall, where about 100 students, faculty, staff and post-doctoral fellows were recognized for all of their accomplishments throughout the year.

Dean Marlys Koschinsky said the event provides her faculty with an opportunity to acknowledge all of the tremendous effort put forth on a regular basis by people who are continually striving to be the best.

“Success cannot be achieved without the dedicated commitment to excellence in everything we do,” she said.

Vice-president, research, Michael Siu was on hand for the event and said the faculty has plenty of reasons to celebrate, noting that it’s the most research-intensive faculty on campus, attracting more than half of the university’s research income.

“I’m well aware of the research prowess of the faculty and there is a great deal to celebrate,” he said.

Among those students honoured were recipients of NSERC post graduate scholarships, Ontario Graduate Scholarships, Ontario Trillium Scholarships, the Queen Elizabeth II Graduate Scholarship in Science and Technology, the Board of Governors In-Course Medal and the 2013 Presidents Medal.

Faculty awards for teaching, research and lifetime accomplishments were awarded, as well as a staff meritorious award. View a list of all the Faculty of Science honorees.
