Lancers repeat as national track champions

The Lancer men’s track and field team claimed its second consecutive banner at the Canadian Interuniversity Sport championship meet in Toronto over the weekend.

Corey Bellemore was named outstanding athlete of the meet after winning two gold medals and one silver; interim head coach Brett Lumley won the Bob Boucher Award as men’s coach of the year.

Bellemore finished second in the men’s 1000m event and first in the 600m and 4x800m relay along with teammates Taylor McArthur, Joseph Kagumba and Nick MacMackin.

McArthur also turned in a bronze medal performance in the 1500m.

Other medalists included Eli Pawliw, silver in the shot put; Paul Janikowski, silver in the 3000m; Brendan Wilhelm, bronze in the high jump and the long jump; and Milos Savic, bronze in the heptathlon with a Windsor-record 4947 points.

The Lancer women finished 10th in a field of 21, with four bronze medalists:  rookie Jordana Badley-Castello in the weight throw, Sarah Mitton in the shot put, Emily Omahen in long jump and Rachel Wolfs in pole vault.
