Health Canada recommends adults engage in 2.5 hours of physical activity per week, and a message sent Monday to UWindsor faculty and staff by Human Resources suggests walking as a way of achieving this goal.
Walking is simple, free, and can be done practically anywhere, it notes — but can also become monotonous. It offers five activities to make walking more interesting:
- Add a workout. Combine walking and bodyweight fitness movements to create the ultimate fitness routine.
- Meditate. Meditation doesn’t have to be done only when you are seated.
- Learn something. Listen to a podcast, audio book, or language instruction while you walk.
- Work on photography. Bring a small camera or use your smartphone to photograph interesting things you see along the way.
- Catch up with family and friends. Walking is a perfect time to phone your friends or family and enjoy a good conversation.
