The University Players production of The Play That Goes Wrong has received nominations in six categories of 519 Magazine’s inaugural Critic’s Choice Windsor Essex Theatre Awards.
The magazine seeks to honour the best work of artists across the region, across all professional, semi-professional, amateur, and youth companies, says editor and publish Dan Lavoie.
“What we start here today is just the beginning of recognizing the incredible theatre arts scene we have in Windsor-Essex,” he said. “This initiative is more than just an awards ceremony; it’s about building a legacy that will nurture and showcase the theatrical talent in Windsor-Essex for years to come.”
Staged in November, the University Players farce is in the running for best play, best cast ensemble, best innovation by a Windsor-Essex resident or company, best director for Alice Nelson, best set design for Nancy Perrin, and best costume design for Agatha Knelsen.
The theatre company presents a full season of shows from September to April, featuring students from the School of Dramatic Art working together with staff, faculty, and guest artists. Its current production, The Glass Menagerie, is running at Essex Hall Theatre until Sunday, Jan. 28. Tickets are available at the online box office.
