Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC)

All Education students are required to submit a clear (negative) Level 3: Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC) each year. 

Key Requirements:

1. Application Timeline

  • You must apply for your PVSC between June 1 and July 15, 2026
  • Ensure your application is submitted to your local police service within this timeframe

2. Document Date Requirement

  • Your PVSC must be dated June 1, 2026 or later to be valid for the 2026-27 academic year

3. Submission Process

  • Upload your PVSC document to Sonia Online
  • Refer to the appropriate “Getting Started with Sonia Online” guide posted at the top of the page for instructions (2026-27 update forthcoming)

4. Password-Protected Files

  • If your PVSC results are password-protected, you must first download and save the document to your computer or device
  • Upload the saved (unlocked) version to Sonia
  • The Faculty cannot accept password-protected files

5. Record Keeping

  • Keep the original copy of your PVSC in a secure location for your records

6. Submission (Upload) Deadline

  • Monday, August 31, 2026 -- no exceptions
  • No practicum/volunteer placement without clear ("negative") search results
  • Late submissions may result in program removal

Important Notes:

  • Keep a copy with you while in schools — principals may request to see it
  • CRC checks and OESC clearances are not accepted
  • All fees/associated costs are the student’s responsibility
  • If you are under 18 and ineligible, submit your PVSC as soon as you become eligible

Police Service Agencies

PVSC Application Instructions:

  • Apply through the police agency in your current place of residence

  • Start early — processing may take 2 weeks to 3 months

  • If required, include the appropriate Faculty of Education Police Agency Letter with your application

  • All fees/associated costs are the student’s responsibility

To apply for a Level 3 PVSC through the Chatham-Kent Police Service, you must reside in Chatham or surrounding areas.* See: Chatham Police Vulnerable Sector Check

*surrounding areas include: Blenheim, Bothwell, Chatham, Lachlan, Coatsworth, Dover Centre, Dresden, Erie Bach, Erieau, Grande Pointe, Highgate, Kent Bridge, Merlin, Mitchell’s Bay, Morpeth, North Buxton, Pain Court, Ridgetown, Shrewsbury, South Buxton, Thamesville, Tilbury, and Wheatley.

  • Apply online or in-person. If in-person, The Records Check Office is available by appointment only

  • name, date, and signature are required prior to submission

To apply for a Level 3 PVSC through the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), you must reside in an area served by the OPP. See: OPP Police Vulnerable Sector Online Application. Find your local OPP detachment here

  • 2 pieces of government ID are required
  • Apply online

To apply for a Level 3 PVSC in the Peel Reigion, you must reside in Mississauga or Brampton, ON. See: Peel Regional Vulnerable Sector Check

  • Apply online or in-person at Sir Robert Peel Centre (Brampton) or 11 Division (Mississauga)

  • Apply online. Official PVSC results will be uploaded to your online account. It is your responsibility to download results and upload a copy to Sonia

To apply for a Level 3 PVSC through the Woodstock Police Service, you must reside in Woodstock, ON. SeeWoodstock Police Vulnerable Sector Check

  • Apply online or in-person (Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM – 6:00 PM). Processing takes approximately 5 business days
  • One piece of government-issued photo ID required
  • Proof of residency in Woodstock required

 Health and Safety Training

All Education students must complete specific Health and Safety training each year —no exceptions. Training is valid for one year only.

2026-27 training requirements and modules are forthcoming, Please check back for updates.
