Ontario Ministry of Education Announcement - April 10, 2026

Due to the Ontario government’s recent announcement regarding the transition of teacher education programs to a compressed 12-month model, and following consultation with the Deans of FAHSS and Science, the sequencing of the Concurrent Bachelor of Education program has been adjusted.
2022 Concurrent Cohort
Students who entered the Concurrent program in September 2022 and have already completed their undergraduate degree and Year 1 of the B.Ed. will complete Year 2 of the B.Ed. in Fall 2026, as currently outlined in the Academic Calendar.
 
2023 Concurrent Cohort
Students in the 2023 cohort will complete the final year of their undergraduate degree during the 2026–2027 academic year and then return in Fall 2027 to complete Year 2 of the current B.Ed. program. Concurrent Music students will continue under the existing program sequence, completing Year 1 of the B.Ed. in Fall 2026 and Year 2 in Fall 2027.
 
2024 Concurrent Cohort
Students in the 2024 cohort will complete the third year of their undergraduate degree during the 2026–2027 academic year and then transition into the new accelerated 12-month B.Ed. program beginning in May 2027.

As a result, their revised program timeline will be as follows:

  • Fall 2024 – Winter 2025: Undergraduate Degree
  • Fall 2025 – Winter 2026: Undergraduate Degree
  • Fall 2026 – Winter 2027: Undergraduate Degree
  • Spring/Summer 2027 – Winter 2028: B.Ed. Program (timeline subject to change)
2025 Concurrent Cohort
Students in the 2025 cohort will complete the second year of their undergraduate degree during the 2026–2027 academic year, the third year during the 2027–2028 academic year, and then transition into the new accelerated 12-month B.Ed. program beginning in May 2028.

As a result, their revised program timeline will be as follows:

  • Fall 2025 – Winter 2026: Undergraduate Degree
  • Fall 2026 – Winter 2027: Undergraduate Degree
  • Fall 2027 – Winter 2028: Undergraduate Degree
  • Spring/Summer 2028 – Winter 2029: B.Ed. Program (timeline subject to change)
2026 Concurrent Cohort
Students entering the Concurrent program in September 2026 will complete the first, second, and third years of their undergraduate degree before transitioning into the new accelerated 12-month B.Ed. program beginning in May 2029.

As a result, their revised program timeline will be as follows:

  • Fall 2026 – Winter 2027: Undergraduate Degree
  • Fall 2027 – Winter 2028: Undergraduate Degree
  • Fall 2028 – Winter 2029: Undergraduate Degree
  • Spring/Summer 2029 – Winter 2029: B.Ed. Program (timeline subject to change)
The revised B.Ed. structure is expected to consist of a continuous 12-month, three-semester program replacing the current two-year, four-semester format. Additional details regarding program structure, timing, and practicum requirements will be shared as the government makes them available.

Kindly note: Admissions to consecutive education are not eligible for deferral; there will be a reapplication process if you choose not to accept the Fall 2026 offer.
