HRC Mission Statement
The Mandate of the Humanities Research Centre (HRC) is to cultivate knowledge and connection by creating an environment that enables "thinking out loud together," a concept for critical thinking, dialogue, and open discourse introduced by Randy Boyagoda at the HRC's 2024 Season-opening lecture in partnership with CBC IDEAS. HRC programs exciting public events with engaging thinkers on crucial topics related to human thriving with a commitment to outreach and support of student and faculty research and community interaction. HRC supports all pillars of the university's strategic priorities, seeking diverse speakers and viewpoints through our commitment to the inclusion of Indigenous voices in our annual programming. We play a special and important role in enacting the university's goals toward "Advancing Bold, Impactful Research, Scholarship, and Creative Activity," "Ensuring a High Quality, Relevant Teaching, Learning, and Student Experience for Everyone," and "Generating Local and Global Impact through Partnership and Community Engagement" with initiatives and events designed to challenge, inspire, and stimulate, in a space of open dialogue, sharing and exchange.
