What is your favourite sports team?
The Toronto Blue Jays
What is your most embarrassing moment? (keep it appropriate)
In grade 12 I was a competitive swim coach for young, novice swimmers. That meant that a lot of my job had to do with teaching them the basics of the sport, including appropriate behaviour on deck. Like any coach or lifeguard I was constantly reminding these young swimmers to walk on deck instead of running. That December, I took the day off from coaching to compete for my high school at a local swim meet. I was going to be late for my first race so I ran down the bleachers and completely wiped out on deck. I sprained my ankle badly and was on crutches for the next few weeks. The next day back to coaching I had to tell my swimmers that their coach didn’t follow her own rule and fell after running on deck. For the rest of the year I had eight year-olds making fun of me and telling me to, “STOP RUNNING ON DECK!” I haven’t managed to live it down to this day.
What was your previous high school?
St. Augustine Secondary School
Where is your hometown?
Brampton, Ontario
What made you choose Human Kinetics?
I chose Human Kinetics at Windsor because I liked the fact that it’s a smaller school than most which allows for smaller class sizes and more interaction with the professors. I also love that you don’t have to specialize until third year which means that you get the chance to explore the field of kinesiology and find out what you are most passionate about. Last but not least, I was very excited about the opportunity for co-op, which I am currently doing and love!
Give a tip that helped you succeed through your first year of Human Kinetics?
Balance your social life and student life! No one wants to be the person who studies all the time and never has any fun; but, on the other hand, no one wants to be the person who is too hung over to make it to classes and flunks out of university. Set weekly schedules for yourself so that you can be sure you’ll have sufficient time to read, study, write papers, and have some fun once in a while
