Dr. Andrea Steen was born and raised in Windsor, Ontario and is married with 4 children.  Dr. Steen began her education at St. Clair College in the Nursing Program where she graduated in 1975. She then continued her education at the University of Windsor earning her Bachelor of Human Kinetics and then obtained a Master’s Degree in Science from the University of Waterloo.  Dr. Steen then attended Medical School at McMaster University and completed her residency in Family Medicine at the Ottawa Civic Hospital from 1989 to 1991 becoming CCFP certified. Dr. Steen returned to Windsor in 1991 and opened her Family Practice which has been in operation for 25 years.
 
She currently serves as the Vice President of Medical Affairs at Hotel Dieu Grace Health Care and was the President of the Professional Staff Association at Windsor Regional Hospital from 2012-2014.  She has also worked as a Psychiatric and Family Medicine Hospitalist at Windsor Regional Hospital and Hotel Dieu Grace Healthcare for 12 years.  For the past 25 years, Dr. Steen has worked as one of the physicians at Teen Health in Windsor where she treated Eating Disorder clients.  Dr. Steen also served as the President of the Essex County Medical Society in 2006-2007. 
 
In addition to her career in Medicine, Dr. Steen is an Olympian.  A champion hurdler in university competitions, Andrea went on to be a three-time Canadian Champion and record holder in the 400 meter hurdles. She represented Canada in the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics, the World Championships in 1983 and the Commonwealth Games in 1982 and 1986.  Dr. Steen was inducted into the Windsor & Essex County Sports Hall of Fame in 1995 and the University of Windsor Sports Hall of Fame.
