Open Positions! Empty Fumehoods!

Not the real empty fumehood. That's still being built in our new state of the art facility.

We are currently actively seeking a PDF with automated solid phase peptide synthesis experience for an anticipated March 2018 start: 1 year renewable contract (must be less than 5 years from obtaining PhD by March 2018)

Description of Position

We are looking for the final member of a research team within the Trant group at the University of Windsor that will be comprised of 4 PDFs, 3PhD students, and a small army of undergraduate researchers within the group, and will be working with 3 PDFs in other research teams around the country. The project involves solid-phase peptide and glycopeptide synthesis using unusual scaffolds, but there is expected to be possible leeway to pursue other projects on the side in amino acid, carbohydrate, supramolecular, or total synthesis chemsitry. Applicants should contact Dr. Trant with their CV and two letters of reference, one of which must explicity discuss their ability and achievements in peptide synthesis. Mentoring training will involve grant writing, paper writing, student supervision, and potentially teaching and learning opportunities. Visa applications will be supported for international candidates. The position is open until filled.

The successful applicant will preferably also have, in decreasing order of importance:

  • Broad and eclectic research interests
  • Extensive student supervision experience
  • Significant synthetic organic chemistry experience (preferably bioorganic and carbohydrate)
  • Glycopeptide synthesis experience
  • Quantum mechanics/computational chemistry experience (DFT calculations and molecular modelling of large systems)
