Writer to answer questions from campus community

Playwright, novelist, social activist and documentary filmmaker Drew Hayden Taylor will hold a question-and-answer session in the Jackman Dramatic Art Centre’s Studio Theatre at 1 p.m. on Friday, November 4.

Admission is free and open to the campus community. His appearance sponsored by the School of Dramatic Art was organized by its director, Lionel Walsh, and facilitated by Taylor’s commitment to Bookfest Windsor.

The Canadian Encyclopedia calls Taylor “one of Canada’s leading native playwrights and humorists.”

Writes Robert Nunn: “Humour figures in all Taylor’s work, eliciting laughter edged with disturbing awareness of exploded stereotypes and bitter truths given a very thin sugar coating.”

His plays have received several awards, notably the 1989 Chalmers Award for Toronto at Dreamer’s Rock and, in 1996, the Dora Mavor Moore Award for Only Drunks and Children Tell the Truth. He has published the short story collection Fearless Warriors and four collections of humorous writings under the running title Funny, You Don’t Look Like One.
