Faculty of Nursing charting course to 2017

A new strategic plan for the Faculty of Nursing provides a roadmap to the future, says dean Linda Patrick. She unveiled the document, a six-panel brochure, at a celebratory reception Thursday in Vanier Hall.

UWindsor president Alan Wildeman praised the faculty for setting forth an attainable vision.

“I like the fact that this plan is short,” he told professors and staff. “If it’s not concise, it gets into levels of detail that no one can remember.”

The plan sets forth values of caring, excellence, innovation, professionalism and respect, and identifies objectives toward five key goals:

  • to direct excellence in nursing practice by delivering quality-driven nursing education;
  • to achieve national and international recognition for excellence in research and scholarship;
  • to engage stakeholders in strong collaborative relationships;
  • to be recognized for excellence in teaching, practice, research and community relationships;
  • to ensure sustainability through the strategic management of resources.

Nursing follows the Leddy Library as the second academic area to complete its strategic plan. Provost Leo Groarke said it is setting an example for other faculties.

“Your plan provides a perspective from which you can understand all the things you do,” he said.
