Cross country coach remembered as pillar of athletics community

Gary MalloyColleagues and athletes who worked with Lancer cross country head coach Gary Malloy, who died May 2, say his legacy will live on through the student-athletes he worked with over a UWindsor career of more than 20 years.

“Beyond being a wonderful coach, teacher and mentor, Gary was a tremendous person and friend to all of us,” says athletics director Mike Havey. “His impact on our campus and in our community goes well beyond track and field. He will be greatly missed by everyone in the Lancer family.”

Malloy joined the UWindsor staff as a sessional advisor in the Faculty of Education in 2016, after serving on the Lancer track and cross country coaching staffs for more than 20 years.

Campus flags will be lowered in his memory on Thursday, May 9.
