John Mountain '86 Law Scholarship

John Mountain, from Windsor Law’s class of 1986 embodied the very best of Windsor Law.

John tirelessly applied his considerable talent to the legal community and had a distinguished career in investment and securities law.  When he passed away, he was the director of the investment funds and structured products branch of the Ontario Securities Commission.  He continually and relentlessly remembered his roots at Windsor Law, staying involved in almost every aspect of our community.

He mentored and guided our students and colleagues at all levels of his career.  He poured hours of his personal time into organizing class gatherings and reunions.  He came back to Windsor Law to teach Securities Law, his area of expertise.  He prioritized Windsor Law as a philanthropic priority, always looking to help students with the expense of law school as well as the uncertainty as students entered the profession.

In his personal life, he was a loving husband, an energetic friend, and was fiercely committed to his family. He, along with his husband Greg Geroge, co-authored an adult travel blog, http://www.followsummer.com encouraging people to experience the world, and inspired by his own year-long trip around the world in 2004.

John gave back to Windsor Law in every single way he could, and no one who met him will ever forget the passion, joy and positive energy he exuded with every grin.

The John Mountain Law Scholarship was established by John during his lifetime, with aspirations of it growing well into his retirement.  John passed away from cancer on June 18, 2018.  This scholarship will be awarded to a student who has demonstrated a passion for advancing the rights and interests of the LGBTQ communities while in law school, as John did during his lifetime.
