Turnitin check for publication papers

A Brightspace site has been created to check papers prior to submission for publication.

Submit your paper:

  1. Log into Brightspace and on the main landing page nave bar, click Discover. 
  2. Find and click the Turnitin Submissions course.
  3. Click Open Course.
  4. Click Assignments in the course nav bar.
  5. Click Turnitin Submissions.
  6. Click Add a File.
  7. Click My Computer and either drag and drop or use Upload to find the paper you would like to check. Then click Add.
  8. Click Submit
  9. Click Done.

View the Similarity report:

It may take a few minutes for the similarity report to be generated and be made available to you.

  1. On the Assignments page, click 1 Submission in the Completion Status column.
  2. Click in the Turnitin Similarity Report column to view the report.

Note: Your paper will not be kept in any repository when using the Turnitin Submissions course.

Note: You cannot submit a student's paper on their behalf for similarity/plagiarism checking if you have not informed the student ahead of time, and in the course outline, that you intend to use a similarity checker, according to Senate's  Policy on Plagiarism-Detection Software.

Excepts from UWindsor’s Policy on Plagiarism-Detection Software:

  1. A statement must be included in the course syllabus to communicate to students when plagiarism-detection software is intended to be used in a course. Professors should use the sample syllabus statement (Appendix A) which includes:
    1. a statement of rationale for the use;
    2. (a statement that plagiarism-detection software will, or may, be used for all course assessments;
    3. a notice to students that the work they submit may become part of a database;
    4. clarification that if the student objects to having his or her assignment(s) submitted to the database, that objection must be communicated in writing to the instructor at the beginning of the course;
    5. a reminder that students retain copyright of their work. (Canadian Copyright Act, R.S.C. 1985, c. C-42, s. 3(1))
  1. In accordance with Bylaw 51, information on what constitutes plagiarism must be included on all course outlines. In addition, in the courses in which plagiarism-detection software will or may be used, students should be provided with instruction and/or resources about how to avoid plagiarism. The services of the Academic Integrity Office are available for this purpose.
