Staying educated and informed will help us all maintain a healthy, safe environment. Please read the following information and take precautions to protect yourself from becoming ill.

According to Ontario’s Chief Medical Officer of Health, precautions can be taken to help protect yourself against coronaviruses as well as other respiratory viruses, including influenza.  To reduce the spread of germs and viruses the following should be followed:

  • stay at home unless you have to go to work (talk to your employer about working at home if possible)
  • avoid all non-essential trips in your community
  • do not gather in groups
  • limit contact with people at higher risk, such as older adults and those in poor health
  • go outside to exercise but stay close to home
  • if you leave your home, always keep a distance of at least 2 arms lengths (approximately 2 metres) from others
  • household contacts (people you live with) do not need to distance from each other unless they are sick or have travelled in the last 14 days
  • get a yearly influenza vaccination, available from clinics and pharmacies (for flu only)
  • wash your hands frequently and thoroughly with soap and water or use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer
  • cover your mouth and nose when you cough or sneeze
  • sneeze or cough into your sleeve or arm if a tissue is not available
  • stay home if you or a family member is ill
  • wash and disinfect frequently touched object and surfaces
  • avoid contact with people who are ill
  • avoid touching your face
