Continuing Education partners with OCAD University to offer certificate in intellectual property law

In response to the growing demand for intellectual property (IP) education in the creative industries, UWindsor Continuing Education has partnered with OCAD University School of Continuing Studies to offer the Intellectual Property Law for Creative Entrepreneurs Certificate.

Developed in partnership with the Faculty of Law and eCampus Ontario, this certificate recognizes the crucial need for artists and designers to comprehend their legal rights in today’s innovation-driven economy.

This unique certificate program delves into various aspects of intellectual property, including copyright law, industrial design law, graphic design law, trademarks, IP law strategy, and Indigenous IP law.

The certificate aims to fill the existing gap in IP education and is tailored specifically to meet the needs of Ontario’s creative entrepreneurs.

Courses offered in the certificate program:

  • Introduction to Intellectual Property Law and IP Strategy for Creative Entrepreneurs
  • Introduction to Copyright Law for Creative Entrepreneurs
  • Intellectual Property Strategy for Industrial Designs
  • Introduction to Trademark Law for Creative Entrepreneurs
  • Critical Approaches to Intellectual Property Law: Reconciling Indigenous Creativity, Indigenous Knowledge, and IP Laws

The first course, “Introduction to Intellectual Property Law and IP Strategy for Creative Entrepreneurs,” is now open for registration. This asynchronous course, starting on Feb. 5 and concluding on March 1, provides an overview of IP law essentials and strategies for creative professionals. Upon successful completion, learners will receive a Certificate of Completion.

While the first course is set to begin in February 2024, the scheduling of the remaining four courses will be announced at a later date. Learners who successfully complete all five courses will receive the Intellectual Property Law for Creative Entrepreneurs Certificate, issued through OCAD University.
