India Canada Association boosts dandeliion root cancer treatment research

Siyaram Pandey’s Kevin Couvillon Research Project on Anticancer Effects of Dandelion Root Extract, got another boost from the community yesterday when the India Canada Association presented a cheque for $5000 to Dr. Pandey during a ceremony in Essex Hall. The ICA, which has a long history of supporting community initiatives, raised the money at its annual fund-raising dinner in October, which featured India’s consul general to Toronto, Preeti Saran, as its guest of honour.

Panel discussion to provide continuing professional development for lawyers

Windsor Law will host a panel discussion on the subject of legal ethics that is accredited by the Law Society of Upper Canada for three hours of continuing professional development.

Panelists for “The Law of Ethics and Defence Advocacy: The Year in Review” include law professor David M. Tanovich, Crown attorney Brian Manarin, and Justice Renee Pomerance of the Superior Court of Justice.

Musical dream coming true for nursing student

When he climbs up on the stage of Toronto’s Sound Academy on Thursday, a dream will come true for Michael Ure. The third-year nursing student will play and sing his country music as the opening act for the Toronto stop on singer-songwriter Tyler Ward’s North American tour.

Ure beat out thousands of competitors for the honour in an online contest judged by Ward’s management team, by TOPBLIP.com and by fans’ votes.

New map identifies Great Lakes environmental hot spots

The Great Lakes are at risk of “death by a thousand cuts,” according to a University of Windsor biologist who was part of an international team of scientists who spent three years identifying the worst threats to one of the world’s largest supplies of fresh water.

Alumni association issues call for teaching award nominations

The University of Windsor Alumni Association is inviting nominations for the Alumni Award for Distinguished Contributions to University Teaching.

The award is given annually at the Spring Convocation ceremonies to honour and recognize distinguished teaching on campus and to provide incentive and encouragement for achieving excellence in this field. All full-time members of the teaching faculty with a minimum of five consecutive years teaching at the University of Windsor are eligible for nomination.

Book signing a reminder that the past makes a perfect present

The UWindsor grad (BA 1983, MA 1985) and his life and business partner Elaine Weeks (BA 1985) have already sold 4,000 copies of their nostalgic coffee table book, 500 Ways You Know You’re From Windsor. They will sign copies as a pre-holiday promotion at the University Bookstore kiosk in the CAW Student Centre on Wednesday, December 12, from noon to 2 p.m.
