Engineering students challenged to think outside the box in national competition

Drawing on inspiration from a futuristic personal transit system being implemented in the United Arab Emirates, four UWindsor Industrial Engineering students came up with a solution to the transportation travails associated with urban sprawl, earning them a second place finish at the Provincial Ontario Engineering Competition and a place at the table for the national competition held recently in Vancouver.

Miracle of a trip: kinesiology students tour Olympic venues

Not everyone gets to be an Olympian, but thanks to a trip to Montreal and Lake Placid last week, students in Scott Martyn’s graduate course on “Crises, Politics, and Commercialism in the Modern Olympic Movement,” got to feel like world-class athletes for a couple of days.

“Overall this was an unforgettable experience that provided students with an opportunity to supplement the material learned in class with a unique hands-on experience,” said master’s student Ryan McConnell.

Graduate diploma to enable nurses to specialize in oncology and palliative practice

A partnership with the de Souza Institute will afford nurses seeking advanced preparation in oncology and palliative care a unique opportunity for professional development at the graduate level, according to the dean of the UWindsor Faculty of Nursing.

Linda Patrick announced Friday that her school will offer a graduate diploma in advanced practice oncology/palliative nursing for students in September 2012.

Grants available for research into violence against women

The Health Research Centre for the Study of Violence Against Women offers research grants for up to $500 for graduate student research on topics related to violence against women.

The spring 2012 deadline has been extended to April 15. Calls for applications will also be made in the fall with a deadline of November 15.

Law library extends hours for exam study

The Paul Martin Law Library will offer extended hours beginning this weekend for exam study.

Its weekend hours of operation will be:

  • Saturday, March 31, 11 a.m. to 8:50 p.m.
  • Friday, April 6, Closed for Good Friday
  • Saturday, April 7 and 14, 11 a.m. to 10:50 p.m.
  • Sunday, April 8 and 15, 1 to 11:50 p.m.
