Despite a massive level of discontent that existed in Essex-Kent in the late 1830s, people here were still not dissatisfied enough to side with attacking “Patriots” from the United States who were trying to drive the British right out of North America, according to a visiting author who will lecture here on Thursday night.

UWindsor researchers collaborate on new Global Cancer Research Office

The collaborative efforts of UWindsor researchers, local hospitals and community supporters reached another milestone Monday as the Windsor Cancer Research Group (WCRG) launched PASSPORTS: Bridging Research and Hope at Windsor Regional Hospital’s Cancer Centre.

UWindsor biology professor and WCRG Scientific Director Lisa Porter and Dr. Caroline Hamm, WCRG Clinical Director and Medical Oncologist for Windsor Regional Hospital’s Cancer Program, were joined by Kevin Laforet, CEO of Caesars Windsor, who presented a $25,000 cheque as seed money for the program.

UWindsor women honoured with Athena Scholarships

University of Windsor alumna Julia Church and student Leslie Skakun received two of three 2013 Athena Scholarships awarded by the Athena Scholarship Fund and the Windsor-Essex Regional Chamber of Commerce during a luncheon on Thursday. The event also featured guest speaker and Canadian Olympic Boxer, Mary Spencer.

Odette celebrates 50th with new wing

The Odette School of Business will unveil its newly renovated south wing during opening ceremonies at the building on Saturday, Sept. 21 at 4 p.m.

The official grand opening is part of UWindsor’s 50th Anniversary Celebration weekend and honours the vision of the building’s namesakes, Louis and Edmond Odette, of converting the former bookstore space into an integrated part of the original Odette building.

Clark Awards to honour four university supporters

A faculty member who spent a career teaching at and supporting UWindsor; a community supporter of UWindsor cancer research; Windsor’s youngest mayor and UWindsor alumnus; and a former Alumni Association president and long-time Board of Governors member, are the four outstanding University and community supporters who will be recognized with a 2013 Clark Award during an evening in their honour this Friday, Sept. 20 at 6:30 p.m.
