Group to help students manage exam stress

Exam season can cause a tremendous amount of stress, anxiety, and general feelings of overwhelm for students, says Brianna Valenzuela.

Group therapy co-ordinator in the Student Counselling Centre, she is facilitating an Exam Stress Management Wellness Group for all UWindsor students beginning Friday, Dec. 8.

“These uncomfortable feelings of stress can play havoc on students’ sleep, nutrition, and mental health, making it increasingly difficult to focus on studying,” Valenzuela says. “This group offers students the opportunity to learn therapeutic strategies to deconstruct negative ways of thinking, create action, and be mindful during exam season.”

The group is open to all UWindsor students at no cost. Attendees will leave with a fidget, a nutritional snack, and skills for maintaining wellness during stressful times.

Sessions run for one hour in room 240, CAW Student Centre, at 11 a.m., 1 p.m., and 3 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 8, and Tuesday, Dec. 12.
