Day’s activities to promote professionalism in graduate and teaching assistants

Organizers of a free professional development day for graduate and teaching assistants are calling on instructors to encourage their students to participate.

The GATA Winter Academy will run 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, January 3. The unique characteristic of this event is that it is facilitated by GAs for their peers.

Its workshops will feature material and activities to help graduate and teaching assistants — both new and experienced — improve their performance and professionalism.

Topics under discussion include:

  • grading and providing effective feedback;
  • encouraging and answering questions in science labs and tutorials; and
  • juggling the many demands of life as a university student.
