The Department of Athletics and Recreational Services has announced nominees for major awards to be conferred Tuesday at the Lancers Evening of Excellence.

Nominated for the Banner Shield as female athlete of the year are guard Carly Steer of Lancer basketball, jumps specialist Mandy Brunet from track and field, and Brooke Davis, a setter on the volleyball team.

The nominees for the Olympic Shield as male athlete of the year are two volleyball players — blocker John Moate and hitter Pierce Johnson, and linebacker Daniel Metcalfe of Lancer football.

The top female and male student-athletes best combining academic and athletic success receive the DeMarco Award. Nominated on the women’s side are golfer Melanie Burgess, hockey player Ashley Maitre, and Alana Gyemi from the volleyball squad. Male nominees include Brad Gyemi of men’s volleyball, football quarterback Sam Girard, and soccer midfielder Bryce Phillips.
