The creation of a safe pedestrian esplanade on Sunset Avenue between Fanchette and Wyandotte streets is among the highlights of a Campus Transformation Plan to be discussed at a public open house event on Wednesday, September 19, from 4 to 7 p.m. in the CAW Centre’s Ambassador Auditorium.
The plan involves improvements already underway and proposed projects through 2015.
University of Windsor president Alan Wildeman said his receipt of a Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal is a tribute to cross-campus partnerships that serve the community.
Dr. Wildeman received the medal in a ceremony August 25 at the nomination of Windsor West MPP Teresa Piruzza, who cited his outstanding contributions to higher education and the economic development of the Windsor-Essex region. The Canadian government created the medal to mark significant achievements in celebration of the 60th anniversary of the Queen’s coronation.
The transfer of city-owned properties to the University of Windsor will advance planning for the development of its downtown campus, president Alan Wildeman said Monday, after Windsor City Council voted to turn the Armouries, the former bus depot and the Chatham Street parkette over to the University.
The downtown campus expansion plans touches on every goal of the University’s strategic plan, said Dr. Wildeman.

Marian Doll, a financial aid administrator since May 1990, will assume the position of acting director of the Student Awards and Financial Aid office while a formal search identifies a permanent successor to Aase Houser, who will retire August 1.
In announcing the appointment, Dave Bussière, assistant vice-president, admissions and records, praised Houser’s almost 40 years of service to the university, characterized by her “calm demeanour, diplomacy and tact” when dealing with stressful situations.

UWindsor president Alan Wildeman issued a cross-campus call Thursday for input into the University’s response to Strengthening Ontario’s Centres of Innovation and Knowledge, a paper released by the provincial government to launch a consultation process about the transformation of the postsecondary education sector.
Among the topics under discussion are innovation, expanded credential options, credit transfers, year-round learning and a new tuition framework

The myUWindsor app will definitely make student life easier, says Ronnie Haidar, but it may make faculty life more difficult.
“I feel sorry for professors because students are going to be playing with this in class,” the fourth-year business student said. “It’s so cool; there’s so much to explore.”
Haidar introduced the mobile app, which provides a wide array of campus information to students with iPhone, BlackBerry and Android smart devices, at a launch event Thursday to open Campus Technology Day 2012.
