A campus-wide notification system intended to keep the UWindsor community safe and informed in an emergency while providing real-time information sharing with public safety agencies won accolades at a recent Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police Conference in Toronto.

The flags, foods and fashions of varied cultures will take centre stage in the CAW Student Centre Commons on Wednesday during the Celebration of Nations.
The multicultural festival will start with a parade of flags leaving the corner of Sunset and University avenues at 10:30 a.m. and head to the centre for exhibitions and performances from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The Students’ Social Justice Forum 2012 will address issues relating to occupation as a form of activism, June 1 and 2 on the University of Windsor campus.
Organizers have issued a call for papers and presentations relating to both physical and mental occupations, whether permanent or temporary.

Matt E. Ryan will discuss the issues surrounding developmental aid and its flaws in a free public lecture, “Why Aid Fails,” in room 113, Biology Building, at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, February 28.
Dr. Ryan is an assistant professor of economics at Duquesne University and runs its economic research colloquium. His appearance is sponsored by the Institute for Liberal Studies and the Windsor chapter of Engineers Without Borders.

The SoVA Projects Gallery hosts “the fall through time and space,” an exhibition of works by first-year students in Lisa Baggio’s class Studio Practice and Ideas: Image, through March 2.
A public reception will celebrate the show and give gallery-goers a chance to meet the 16 participating artists, Friday, March 2, starting at 7 p.m.
The SoVA Projects Gallery is located in the LeBel Building, on the southwest corner of Huron Church Road and College Avenue.

Campus flags are lowered today in memory of retiree Jean Bielecki, who died February 21.
Bielecki began work in the Leddy Library as a Clerical Assistant in 1967, retiring from the position of supervisor in the Bibliographic Searching Section in 1986. Funeral services were held February 24. Read her obituary here.
Several instructors at the School of Music will be among the featured performers Saturday, February 25, as the Windsor Symphony Orchestra and Chorus stages its annual concert.
The centrepiece of the performance will be Alexander’s Feast by George Frideric Handel, an important and pivotal piece by a composer known for his choral works. An ode with music, Alexander’s Feast met with great success when it premiered in 1736 in London, encouraging Handel to make the transition from writing Italian operas to English choral works.

One question tripped up most respondents – the 1900 Paris Olympics were the most recent Summer Games held during a non-leap year. Montreal hosted the event in 1976, a leap year. The Gregorian calendar now in use does not add a leap day to most end-of-century years, including 1900.
A team of Windsor engineering students engaged in designing and building a radio-controlled aircraft are partnering with a local chain restaurant to raise money for the project.
The 2012 SAE Aero Design team has arranged to receive a percentage of the dinner proceeds at Kelsey’s Tecumseh location on Monday, February 27. The team will receive 10 per cent of food sales between 6 and 11 p.m. at the restaurant, located at 9 Amy Croft Drive in Tecumseh.
