PVSC Icon Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC)

Updated: May 27, 2025

All Education students must submit a clear (search results "negative") Level 3: Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC) each year. Each PVSC is valid for one year only.

Key Requirements:

  • Your PVSC must be dated June 1, 2025 or later to be valid for the 2025–26 academic year

  • Upload your PVSC document to Sonia

  • If your results are password-protected, download and save the document before uploading to Sonia. Keep the original copy in a secure location

Deadline:

  • Friday, August 29, 2025 -- no exceptions
    No practicum/volunteer placement without clear ("negative") search results
    Late submissions may result in program removal

Important Notes:

  • Keep a copy with you while in schools — principals may request to see it

  • CRC checks and OESC clearances are not accepted

  • All fees/associated costs are the student’s responsibility

  • If you are under 18 and ineligible, submit your PVSC as soon as you become eligible

PVSC Application Instructions:

  • Apply through the police agency in your current place of residence

  • Start early — processing may take 2 weeks to 3 months

  • If required, include the appropriate Faculty of Education Police Agency Letter with your application

  • All fees/associated costs are the student’s responsibility

TB icon Tuberculin (TB) Test

 Download the Tuberculin (TB) Test Results Form

All Education students must provide proof of a negative (clear) TB test before entering a school.

  • Year 1 Consecutive, Year 1 Teach Studies, and Years 1, 3, 5 Concurrent: 
    Submit results dated June 1, 2025 or later. Valid for 2 years

  • Year 2 Consecutive and Year 3 Psychology/ECE/BEd (St. Clair College 2024 graduates):
    If your results are dated June 1, 2024 or later, no new test is needed

Key Requirements:

  • One-step (Mantoux) TB test required. If results are positive, a chest x-ray is mandatory

  • Print and bring the Tuberculin (TB) Test Results Form to your appointment. Must be signed and stamped by the clinician

  • Upload completed results form to Sonia

  • Keep the original copy in a secure location

Deadline:

  • Friday, August 29, 2025 -- no exceptions
    No practicum/volunteer placement without valid test results
    Late submissions may result in program removal

Health and safety icon Health and Safety Training

All Education students must complete the required Health and Safety training each year —no exceptions. Training is valid for one year only.

Why This Is Required:

The Occupational Health and Safety Act classifies post-secondary students on placement as “workers,” requiring training before entering schools. School boards mandate this training for all teacher candidates and school volunteers. 

Submission Details:

  • Upload your Certificate of Completion to Sonia

  • Confirm completion of Modules 2–8 within Sonia

Required Training Modules:

 Currently unavailable. Please check back in August (2025) for updates.

  1. Worker Health & Safety Awareness in 4 Steps training video. After watching the training video, download and save your Certificate of Completion

  2. Health and Safety Baseline Orientation

  3. WHIMIS Training

  4. Workplace Harassment Training

  5. Workplace Violence Prevention

  6. AODA (Accessibility) Training

  7. Fire Safety Plan Training

  8. Job-Specific Training

    • Elementary: P/J Hazards & Prevention

    • Secondary: I/S Hazards & Prevention

Additional Info for Year 2 Consecutive & Year 5 Concurrent:

If you have an external placement, you may need additional school board-specific training. The Field Experience Office will contact you if required.
