The 2007 CNCCC was held in Kingston, Ontario hosted by Queen’s University. Ten teams competed in the competition from Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswich and Nova Scotia Universities. The competition was held from Friday, May eleventh to Sunday, May thirteenth, 2007.
The Concrete Canoe Competition has been around for over 30 years in the United States and the CNCCC began in 1994. Each year 10 to 15 University student engineering teams across Canada enter this competition. The goal of the competition is to see which team is capable of creating the strongest, fastest, most innovative canoe made of concrete. It is a weekend long competition that involves: formal presentations of each teams design, aesthetics judging of the final product and of course the concrete canoe races.
The University of Windsor Concrete Canoe Team began competing at the Canadian National Concrete Canoe Competition (CNCCC) in 2005. We now have 3 years of experience under our belts and are a team 15 members strong. This year we have created a canoe that complements
the team’s experience. The theme, Iron Knight, plays off the lancer theme. It also represents the strength and determination the team brings to the 2007 CNCCC. The team started this year in early September, recruiting new members and drawing up a plan of attack for the year. Shortly after, a few conceptual designs took shape. The final design was chosen in early January and construction of the canoe and it's components was completed through February, March and April. With all of this hard work, the final product is a concrete canoe that was worthy competition at the 2007 CNCCC and took the title of third place.
