Jatinder K. Bewtra, university professor emeritus in civil engineering, has been elected a fellow of the American Society of Civil Engineers in recognition of his contributions to the profession.

In a professional and academic career spanning 50 Dr. Bewtrayears, Dr. Bewtra published more than 200 papers and supervised more than 70 graduate students. He attained the rank of university professor in 1998 and was named a fellow of the Canadian Society for Civil Engineering in 2001.

Now retired from teaching, Bewtra continues to supervise graduate students and conduct research.

The American Society of Civil Engineers identifies its fellows as an elite few, limited to no more than five percent of the organization's membership. In its election criteria, it specifies leaders who have achieved significant accomplishments during their career; professional distinctions within the industry; and the respect of other civil engineering authorities.
