International conference set for UWindsor

‘Relative Age Effects: An International Conference’

The Department of Kinesiology  will support a one-day conference in October 2018 to connect and engage leading scholars from around the world (e.g., Australia, Belgium, Germany, Holland, United States) who have examined the ‘relative age effect’ from a variety of different perspectives (e.g., sport, mental health and well-being, education, youth development), as well as sport and educational policy makers and practitioners.

Confirmed speakers have had their research profiled in such popular press books as Malcolm Gladwell’s (2008) Outliers: The Story of Success, in magazines like Sports Illustrated (Levy, 2011), and on television programs such as 60 Minutes (CBS Interactive, 2012).

Subsequent to the conference, presenters will be invited to contribute a chapter to an edited book summarizing their work on the relative age effect to be published by a leading publisher.

The grant to support the event was secured by Dr. Jess Dixon, Dr. Sean Horton and Ph.D candidate, Laura Chittle.
