Originally from Windsor, WSO Concertmaster Lillian Scheirich began her musical studies on the violin at the Detroit Community Music School, as well as completing summer studies at the Mozarteum, in Salzburg, Austria. She was a scholarship recipient to the Eastman School of Music (Rochester, New York), studying violin with Gerardo Ribeiro and the late Catherine Tait, and piano with the late Emily Davis Vanderpool, completing degrees in both Violin Performance and Music Education.
Ms. Scheirich has performed in various music festivals including the Blossom Music Festival (Ohio), Great Music West (Utah), North Bay Festival (Ontario), the Schoolcraft College Piano Chamber Music Program (Michigan) for numerous years with the late Eugene Bossart (pianist), and for the past two summers at the Fairbanks Summer Arts Festival (Alaska), with Windsor’s own Maestro Robert Franz.
Lillian has been an Adjunct Associate Professor of Violin at the University of Windsor for many years, and also maintains a violin and piano studio in her home. She has adjudicated competitions across Canada and in Michigan, as well as adjudicating the Orchestral Category of the JUNO Awards, and the Orford String Quartet Award given by the Ontario Arts Foundation.
Lillian has recorded three chamber music CDs of the works of Waghalter, de la Presle and de la Tombelle with pianist Mary Siciliano. The chamber music of Jacques de la Presle was performed on a tour of France in 2009 with Ms. Siciliano, piano and Nadine Deleury, cello. A highlight of this tour was the World Premiere of the trio Souvenir d’Arras (from his opera “Cyrano”) by the late David DiChiera (founder of the Michigan Opera Theater).
Lillian Scheirich was awarded the Mayor’s Award for Excellence in Music (2001) and currently plays on a copy of a Pailliot violin.
This season marks the beginning of her 31st year with the Windsor Symphony Orchestra as the Morris and Beverly Baker Foundation endowed Concertmaster chair.
