What is one word that you would use to describe your exchange experience? Wondrous!
What was the best thing that happened to you while on exchange?
I met great people who I shared a lot in common with. We had the opportunity to travel Europe and to go to some of their hometowns (Prague, Vienna, Paris, Lyon).
How did you finance your exchange?
As an older student I have had the opportunity to save money from my previous career and had the opportunity to work during the summer. I used my savings as well as some of the money I got from student loans to pay for all the adventures.
What was the biggest cultural shock that you experienced?
The Cleanliness! Switzerland is one of the cleanest countries I have ever visited — You won’t even find a cigarette butt on the streets. They have garbage bins on every block to ensure no one has the need to litter.
What was the coolest place that you traveled to while on exchange?
I went on many hikes up mountains. Hiking to the top of Rigi Mountain has to be the coolest place I had a chance to see.
What is something that you know now, that you wish you knew before you left for exchange?
Switzerland has a great bike sale at the beginning of September. I would recommend students take advantage of the program and buy a used bicycle instead of a bus pass the first month of their exchange.
If you were to recommend exchange to your best friend, what would you say?
Do it!! It will be the best thing you do in your academic career and maybe in your life.
How have you included exchange on your resume?
The University of Lucern includes a Certificate program awarded by the Dean of the Faculty of Law of the University of Lucerne, if all the requirements of the programme have been fulfilled. I believe this is another added bonus to the program.
