Awards program to recognize outstanding employee contributions

A new Employee Recognition Awards Program will formally celebrate the outstanding contributions of employees campus-wide to the achievement of the University’s mission and vision, says chief human resources officer Rita LaCivita.

“These awards have been designed to reinforce the importance of service, innovation, teamwork, leadership and involvement in the campus community,” LaCivita says. “This exciting program will provide opportunities for us to recognize all employees for their work to support the University.”

She says the awards will complement other recognition activities, including the 25 Years of Service Award; 10, 20, 30 and 40 Years of Service Awards, and the Excellence in Health and Safety Award.

The Employee Recognition Awards program will consist of six categories:

  • Service Excellence Award – Individuals—a maximum of two annually, one each for a staff member and a faculty member demonstrating consistent delivery of the highest level of service
  • Service Excellence Award – Team—teams of two or more employees working collaboratively to share ideas, responsibility and skills
  • Service Excellence Award – First 5 Years of Employment—to encourage new permanent employees who demonstrate high levels of professionalism
  • Excellence in Leadership Award—recognizing role models who promote a collegial and supportive work environment
  • Innovation Award—for individuals or teams that have implemented an initiative to enhance teaching, learning or service delivery
  • “U” Make a Difference Award—for commitment to building a sense of community through volunteerism

The awards will be presented at a special recognition event. Nominations require a completed form as well as two letters of support by September 28. These will be evaluated by a committee representing various employee groups.
