Applying to the GLIER Graduate Program

GRADUATE PROGRAM

The objective of our graduate program is to select a small number of excellent students most likely to successfully complete our rigorous research-oriented programs. The selection process for admissions is highly competitive. Although we anticipate most students will enter our programs in September, applications will also be accepted for January and May.

Doctoral Program 
The GLIER Graduate Committee looks for excellent academic records (at least a B+) that include strong backgrounds in one or more of the basic disciplines (e.g. biology, chemistry, earth sciences) and previous work in the disciplines related to the intended area of concentration. They also give weight to the letters of recommendation, the applicant's letter of intent, and evidence of research activity (peer-reviewed publications, submissions to scholarly journals, presentations at conferences, attendance at workshops). (more information about the doctoral program)

Master’s Program

How to Apply to GLIER's Environmental Science Program

You must have at least a B+ average in your last two years of academic study.

 
Before applying, you are strongly encouraged to identify and correspond with a prospective GLIER Supervisor. (list of GLIER faculty)

You must complete an online GLIER Application Form. On this form, include a statement of intent that clearly outlines your interest in the GLIER Environmental Science program, your proposed focus of study, and the name of your prospective supervisor. Apply to the University of Windsor Graduate Program

Choose the Environmental Science graduate program from your list of options.

Submit all supporting application documentation to the Office of the Registrar, Applicant Services, University of Windsor, Windsor, Ontario N9B 3P4, Canada.
 

Assessment
The GLIER Graduate Committee will review your full application and prepare a confidential assessment of your suitability for the Environmental Science graduate program. On the basis of a recommendation from the GLIER Graduate Committee, the Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research will determine whether you are admitted into the program. Their decision will be based on your prospective advisor’s confidential assessment, his or her ability and willingness to fund and support your studies, and on your academic and research qualifications.
