It is my privilege to welcome you to the Faculty of Science. As a community of teacher-scholars, researchers, technical and operating staff, we are always ready to embrace the education, training, and mentoring of our 4,000+ proud undergraduate and graduate Lancer students.
The Faculty of Science houses six departments — namely Integrative Biology, Biomedical Science, Chemistry & Biochemistry, Economics, Mathematics & Statistics, and Physics; two schools — Computer Science and Environment; two programs — Behaviour Cognition Neuroscience (BCN) and Forensic Science. Our research institutes, the Great Lakes Institute for Environmental Research (GLIER) and the WE-SPARK Health Institute further strengthen our diverse, broad, and multidisciplinary academic units.
Our 150+ faculty members are always ready to walk the extra mile towards excellence, and their labs are located in 8 different buildings within our main and downtown campuses — which reside on the traditional territory of the Three Fires Confederacy of First Nations, comprised of the Ojibwa, the Odawa, and the Potawatomi.
When you walk around those buildings, you feel the energy emanated from exciting discussions that range from artificial intelligence and big data to cell and cancer research, from the development of new drugs and smart materials to climate change, ecology and environmental sustainability, from game theory, micro and macroeconomics to operator algebra and stochastic processes, from subatomic particles to quantum phenomena. This explains why we bring over 50% of all research funding… so that the world can become yours to discover!
Our students and our community are at the very center of what we do. They learn, grow, and thrive through teaching, research, and community engagement, through innovative and creative opportunities in experiential learning approaches, small classroom sizes, peer-communities, top undergraduate and graduate research experiences, professional experiences through internships, and life-changing opportunities to discover the world with several study abroad programs. Every year, this activity is supported by $2,000,000+ in scholarships. Our connections with community organizations and industrial partners are strong and offer further support to the economic diversity and prosperity of our region and beyond; this care translates into a lifelong relationship to over 20,000 alumni worldwide.
If you are a current undergraduate or graduate student, thank you for trusting us.
If you are a current faculty, or staff, thank you for giving your best to making this a great place.
If you are a prospective student and our research-based approach attracts your curious and problem-solving mind, come thrive with us.
If you are an alumnus, community member, industrial partner, or donor, let’s talk about how to support and strengthen the Faculty of Science even further.
