Alumni Cares Volunteer Program

Launched in January 2021, the Alumni Cares volunteer program provides opportunities for alumni and friends of the University of Windsor to give back to their communities in a meaningful and engaging way. Through volunteerism, local and global community outreach and acts of good will, the program seeks to build campus and community partnerships by collaborating to help those in need and supporting the mission of enriching the lives of students and alumni.

Community Clean Up, in partnership with the Office of Student Experience

Help give back to the community surrounding the University of Windsor by cleaning up our neighbourhood. Throughout the day you will meet new people, explore the neighbourhoods around campus and also challenge yourself to fill as many bags of garbage as you can! All participants will receive University of Windsor swag!

There will be 45-minute cleanup intervals available throughout the day. Please select what time slot you would like to register for by filling out the form below. 

Event logistics:

  • Date: Tuesday, March 26, 2024
  • Meeting Location: David A. Wilson Commons
  • What to bring: Weather appropriate clothing, water bottle, close-toed shoes
  • What we provide: UWin swag, route map, garbage bags, garbage pickers and gloves.

Two alumni cleanup times are available for registration, each lasting approximately 45 minutes:

  • Shift 1: 11:30 - 12:15 p.m.
  • Shift 2: 12:30 - 1:15 p.m.

Supporting Literacy: Volunteer with the Windsor Public Library

Become a Book Buddy with the Windsor Public Library

Windsor Public Library is looking for committed volunteers to be part of their growing Book Buddy program. Ideal volunteers should be outgoing, passionate, approachable and want to help promote literacy in the community.

Volunteers will be trained and paired with a youth (aged six-12) to meet once per week in a community branch of the public library. Volunteers will utilize the library resources for reading, writing, puzzles, games, and more! Training is provided on-site.

Why volunteer?

  • You can promote literacy skills for youth in your own community
  • You can increase a youth’s confidence through fun and engaging literacy activities
  • You can use your skills, experience and knowledge to help foster literacy skills

Volunteers needed for the Windsor Public Pibrary Adult Literacy Program

Volunteers needed for the Adult Literacy program at Windsor Public Library!
All volunteers are provided training and resources before being paired with adult learners for reading, writing and basic math instruction in a one-on-one setting.

Volunteer instruction can take place in any one of WPL’s nine community branches. Volunteers are asked to commit one (1) hour per week for a minimum of six (6) months.

If you are dependable, flexible, patient, and optimistic – this volunteering opportunity is for you!

The Alumni Association is a Canadian Blood Services’ (CBS) Partner for Life. As Alumni, your donation can count towards our pledge of 50 blood donations in 2023. Friends of the Alumni Association and University of Windsor can also donate to our pledge.

Life After 50 Volunteer Opportunities 

The University of Windsor Alumni Association has partnered with Life After 50, offering various volunteer opportunities. 

Telephone Assurance Caller
- Providing a friendly phone call to homebound seniors to ensure safety and general well-being. 
- Calls vary from once a week to 3 times a week, Monday to Friday between 8:30am and 4:30pm

Computer One to One
- Assist members with basic computer skills, cell phone and tablet use. 
- This can be done by appointment, Monday to Friday, 9am to 4pm.

Alumni Snow Angels Volunteers

The University of Windsor Alumni Association has partnered with the City of Windsor's Snow Angels program to help members of the community who need it most during the winter months.

The Snow Angels program has been running for 20 years and many residents rely on the service provided by volunteers. Recently, Snow Angels' volunteer numbers have dropped which means that people like you are needed more than ever. This program has the potential to help over 400 residents of Windsor with their snow removal needs. We thank you for your interest in this program and applaud your willingness to help those in the community who need it most.
