Dwight Duncan, LLD, MBA, BComm, BA
Dwight Duncan is the University of Windsor's ninth Chancellor. His official installation was held at the Spring 2025 Convocation.
A distinguished public servant and business leader, Duncan has built a dynamic career spanning the public, private, and not-for-profit sectors. He served as a Member of Provincial Parliament for 18 years, including as Deputy Premier and Minister of Finance for Ontario. During his time in Cabinet, he delivered six provincial budgets and led major reforms in energy, infrastructure, taxation, pensions, and public services. He played a key role in Ontario’s response to the 2008–2009 global financial crisis, including the restructuring of Chrysler and General Motors in Canada.
Duncan’s public service extended to oversight of major Crown corporations such as the LCBO, OLG, Hydro One, and Ontario Power Generation. He also had legislative responsibility for the Ontario Securities Commission, the Ontario Energy Board, and the Financial Services Commission of Ontario.
Following his public service, Duncan transitioned to senior advisory roles in business and law. He currently serves as Senior Advisor for Canadian Investor Relations at Bernstein Litowitz Berger & Grossmann LLP, and has previously advised clients across Canada through McMillan LLP and McMillan Vantage.
Duncan is a member of the Board of Directors of the Global Risk Institute, a Senior Fellow at the C.D. Howe Institute, a Director at OTT Financial, a Governor of the MS Society of Canada, and Advisory Board Member at Elevate Finance. He is also a former Chair of the Windsor-Detroit Bridge Authority, overseeing the construction of the Gordie Howe International Bridge.
A lifelong resident of Windsor, Duncan served as a city councillor and led the Brentwood Recovery Home prior to his provincial career. He has remained closely connected to the University of Windsor, where he earned both a Bachelor of Commerce and an MBA, and where he served as a sessional instructor, fundraiser, and Executive-in-Residence at the Odette School of Business. He also holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from McGill University and was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Laws by the University of Windsor in recognition of his public service.
Duncan has served on numerous corporate and non-profit boards, including Travelers Canada, the MS Society’s Scientific Research Foundation, and the Churchill Society for the Advancement of Parliamentary Democracy. His leadership in public affairs and governance has earned him many distinctions, including the Queen Elizabeth II Golden and Diamond Jubilee Medals, the Odette School of Business Award for Excellence in Business Leadership, and recognition from communities and organizations across Ontario and Canada.
A frequent public speaker and media commentator, Duncan continues to contribute to national discussions on economic policy, governance, and leadership. He is an avid cyclist and golfer, and the proud father of Sean Duncan.
