Gloves and Mixed PPE

PPE Recycling Initiative at the University of Windsor

To reduce laboratory waste and support sustainability, the University of Windsor is recycling uncontaminated personal protective equipment (PPE) from labs across campus. Gloves, masks, gowns, and hairnets that are free of contaminants are collected and repurposed into new plastic products—helping cut landfill waste and reduce reliance on virgin materials.

How to Participate (4 Easy Steps):

  1. Request a Bin – Contact CCC (ccc@uwindsor.ca) for a labeled collection bin, or reuse a box and attach one of the posters below.
  2. Collect PPE – Place used, uncontaminated PPE in the container instead of the trash.
  3. Spread the Word – Inform staff, students, and colleagues about the program.
  4. Consolidate – When full, empty contents into the nearest consolidation bin or contact CCC.

Consolidation Bin Locations:

  • Biology Building – Room 213
  • CORe – 2nd floor (outside Room 219)
  • CORe – 3rd floor (main lab back entrance & outside Room 305B)
  • Essex Hall – Room 372-4
  • GLIER – Room 127

Impact So Far:
Together, we’ve diverted 1,165 kg of PPE and gloves from landfill!
