About the Event
Individuals who require palliative and end of life care often require opioids for comprehensive symptom management. Barriers may exist if health-care professionals and the public have fears about opioid addiction, misconceptions, or personal experiences with opioid misuse within their families or themselves. There can also be a gap in knowledge or expertise related to opioid prescribing, dispensing, and administration. This session will focus on safety implications in community palliative care, bringing forth important knowledge to ensure those in need of excellent palliative care receive it.
About the Guest Speaker
Rita J. DiBiase, MSN, RN(EC), CHPCN(C)
Rita DiBiase is a Nurse Practitioner and has her Canadian Hospice & Palliative Care Nurse Certification. Rita’s passion is Oncology and Palliative Care, having cared for individuals and families in both Ontario and Michigan. She is currently working as a Palliative Nurse Practitioner in a retirement home. She has co-developed palliative and end-of-life courses at the graduate level and more recently in the Collaborative BScN program at the University of Windsor. She is a facilitator of US and Canadian palliative programs for healthcare professionals. Rita is a Compassion Fatigue Educator and Specialist, presenting Compassion Fatigue Resiliency workshops internationally. She also presents Disenfranchised Grief workshops and has authored three chapters about grief.
