Just Agreement Questions
Abstract: Catherine Hundleby brought questions about the role of justice in argumentation to the fore. Inspired by her and her work, in this talk, I want to start the process of finding and articulating the best questions that need to be answered to construct a theory of just argumentative agreement. To do so, I will first outline Hundleby’s personal and professional impact on me and my scholarship. I will then survey some of her work, focusing on the questions she was answering and how she went about doing so, to look for potential applications to my evolving work on agreement. The conclusion will not provide any certainty, and I will not be defending a position. Rather, I hope the conclusion will prompt audience discussion on the topic so that the real conclusions are taken away from that discussion rather than presented during the talk itself.
