Men’s basketball team to host Calgary squad in pre-season play

The Lancer men’s basketball team will host the University of Calgary Dinos for a rare cross-Canada exhibition match-up, Thursday, October 13, at the St. Denis Centre. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. Tickets are $5, available at the door.

Head coach Chris Oliver’s squad is well rested after a busy August summer series against NCAA schools Virginia Tech, St. Louis, Oakland and Northern Florida. Coming into the season, the team appears poised for another big year behind the senior leadership trio of Josh Collins, Enrico Diloreto and Lien Phillip.

Phillip captured a silver medal playing for Team Canada at the World University Games in China this August. He will be one of the toughest post match-ups in the country and last year averaged 11.8 points per game and 10.5 rebounds per game.

At the guard spots, Collins and Diloreto make up one of the most talented tandems in the nation. Point guard Collins averaged 9.7 ppg and 5.4 apg a year ago while shooting guard Dilreto averaged 13.3 ppg and 3.4 rpg.

The Lancers also boast a host of newcomers, including Windsor products Junior Osuntola from Holy Names High School and Joey Ellenberger from F.J. Brennan High School.
