AIDS researcher to discuss criminalizing transmission on radio program

A sociology professor whose research involves issues regarding the spread of HIV and AIDS will discuss his work when he appears on CJAM 99.1 FM this afternoon.

Barry Adam is the senior scientist and director of prevention research at the Ontario HIV Treatment Network. Dr. Adam has been studying HIV and AIDS since it was first diagnosed in Canada in 1982 and one of his particular areas of research is on the effects the rising tide of prosecutions of people living with HIV has had on people’s behaviour and sexual decision making. Under Canadian criminal law, HIV positive people have the legal obligation to disclose their status before they engage in behaviours that put another person at significant risk of serious bodily harm.

Adam will appear on Research Matters, a weekly talk show that focuses on the work of University of Windsor researchers. The show airs Thursdays at 4:30 p.m.
