Alumni association to confer awards during annual general meeting

Helping students to realize their own capabilities and potential for leadership is key to her teaching, says Martha Reavley.

That commitment won the associate professor of management in the Odette School of Business recognition from graduates. She will receive the Excellence in Mentoring Award from the University of Windsor Alumni Association at its annual general meeting, today at 5 p.m. in the CAW Student Centre’s Ambassador Auditorium.

“Over 30 years, as a student and as a professor, I have been given many opportunities for professional growth,” says Dr. Reavley, a UWindsor grad herself (BComm 1981, MBA 1982). “I always felt that it is a deep responsibility of mine to give those opportunities to others.”

Janet DavidsonAlumni Award of Merit

Also being honoured tonight is Janet Davidson (BScN 1971), president of Trillium Health Centre, who will receive the Alumni Award of Merit. In 30 years of volunteer work with the International Red Cross, she has fought on the front lines of malaria and HIV/AIDS relief in Africa, rebuilt countries ravaged by tsunami and hurricane, provided feeding programs in drought-ridden and war-torn areas, and protected victims of conflict around the world.

Davidson received an honorary doctor of laws degree from the University of Windsor in 2009, the latest in a series of accolades that include appointment as an Officer of the Order of Canada in 2006, the Queen’s Jubilee Medal in 1999, and the 1998 YMCA Woman of the Year Award in Business and Management.
