Lunchtime walking club to encourage employee activity

A noon-hour walking club is aimed at getting UWindsor faculty and staff out of their offices and on their feet, says organizer Frank Jeney, a fitness coordinator at the Forge.

The club is free to join; participants meet each Monday and Wednesday in front of the CAW Student Centre to walk from 12:10 to 12:50 p.m., “early enough to get back to work,” notes Jeney.

He is encouraging employees to engage in some healthy competition between departments.

“The department to log the highest average number of walks per participants from May 14 to June 27 will win a healthy coffee break for its office,” he says.

To join, contact Jeney at fjeney@uwindsor.ca or head to the student centre at lunch Monday.

In other fitness developments, Employee Fitness classes have resumed on main campus. They run 12:10 to 12:50 p.m. Monday through Friday in the Education Gym between the University Computer Centre and the CAW Student Centre. Find details and online registration at www.uwindsor.ca/campusrec/fitness.

The Forge Fitness Centre is offering UWindsor faculty and staff a special summer membership rate of $60 for those who sign up before June 1. Register at the St. Denis Centre or phone Jeney at 519-253-3000, ext. 4067.
