A new publication is aimed at helping UWindsor employees stay safe on the job, says Leigh Harold, associate director of health and safety.
Issues of the newsletter, Safety in Mind, will be published monthly for distribution online. Readers can print it and post in working areas and on bulletin boards. The campus community is also encouraged to submit ideas for future issues.
“We will also begin this fall to develop a framework for departmental safety committees,” Harold says. “The committees are one part of a three-part initiative to enhance and foster the health and safety culture on campus. It will also include the monthly safety newsletters and the introduction of a quarterly award recognizing leadership in health and safety in the workplace.”
The newsletter’s inaugural edition deals with ergonomics, the science of fitting the work and equipment to the user as opposed to forcing the user to fit the work. Typically, office equipment is designed to accommodate a wide range of users. It requires appropriate adjustment and arrangement for individual users to ensure job duties are performed with minimal risk of injury.
