Award-winning speaker to open summer series on teaching and learning

The number of learning technologies available to instructors seems to grow each day. With so many tools that promise to enhance teaching and learning, it’s easy to get overwhelmed.

Award-winning chemistry instructor Bal Barot of Lake Michigan College will kick off this year’s Summer Series on Teaching and Learning with a dynamic and energizing workshop on using technology to enhance teaching and student learning, Tuesday, August 14, from 9 a.m. to noon.

In this session, participants will explore why some technologies help achieve learning outcomes while others do not, and how to use specific technologies like discussion boards, blogs, digital cameras and smartphones, in and out of the classroom.

Dr. Barot has taught chemistry to students ranging from undergraduate to doctoral level since 1984. He has published three books and more than 20 papers, and has received numerous grants and awards. His experience with technology in teaching and learning began as a first faculty adaptor of the Blackboard platform at Lake Michigan College in the 1990s. Barot has used Whiteboard, 3D projectors, clickers, blogs, computerized assessment, remote data collection and other multi-media technology to teach on-line and face-to-face classes.
