Three UWindsor grads will juxtapose vibrant colours with a dark sense of humour in their collaborative art exhibition, opening at the Common Ground Gallery this weekend.

Stephen Gibb (BFA 1985), Laura Gould (BA 1987) and Rebecca Draisey (BSc 1982, BFA 1988) named their exhibit “The GGoD Show” not only in homage to television’s Gong Show but because their surnames begin with G, G and D.

“The show will encompass a wide variety of works,” says Gould. “All will reflect the theme of GGoD, however each of us defines that.”

Her work will focus on the written word, with pieces presented as canvas shrouds and cautionary tiles incorporating a twist on platitudes—religious and otherwise—as well as what she calls “the two T’s: television and the ten commandments.”

Gibb will exhibit paintings on the motif of the seven deadly sins and other naughty habits. He describes his work as rich in irony and distortions, bristling with sublime, psychotropic colours.

Draisey's work is an admixture of images, pop culture references and bold use of colour in a kaleidoscopic abstract expressionist style.

A free public reception will open the show at 7 p.m. on Saturday, August 25. The exhibition will continue through September 4. Common Ground is located in the Mackenzie Hall cultural centre, 3277 Sandwich Street.
