Student group to offer information session on international internship

With the realities of today’s tight job markets, young people are looking for new ways to try the international job market on for size. However, going on an international internship can turn from exciting to nerve-racking without the right guidance.

AIESEC Windsor will hold an information session on Wednesday, November 21, at 2 p.m. in room 263, Chrysler Hall South, to discuss the organization and its role in the application process for international experience.

The group, whose name originated as an acronym of the French for “International Association of Economics and Business Students,” is a global, not-for-profit organization run by students and recent graduates of institutions of higher education.

Focused on providing a platform for youth leadership development, AIESEC offers young people the opportunity to be global citizens, to change the world, and to get experience and skills that matter today, says Viral Patel, a vice president the local chapter.

“We are currently facilitating both incoming and outgoing internships for foreign interns as

well as students from the university,” Patel says. “We guide them throughout the entire process, from application, to support during their stay in the host country, and finally to their return to Windsor.”

AIESEC runs two programs:

  • the Global Internship Program provides young people with a professional development experience that would enable them to apply what they learn in school to a job in an international environment;
  • the Global Community Development Program is a volunteer alternative, focused on creating impact in the host environment, working with non-governmental agencies, schools or charities.

Students who wish to attend should forward their full name and UWindsor e-mail address to vpogx.windsor@gmail.com. For further information on AIESEC Windsor, visit the organization’s Web site.
