Ambitious stair climbers help area after school programs

A team of ambitious UWindsor employees will be climbing the stairs at the WFCU arena later this month to help raise money for after school programs across Windsor and Essex County.

The AUTO21 Accelerators will be taking part in the United Way’s iClimb event at the east side arena on Feb. 22. Their challenge is to climb 1,000 stairs at the facility in the least amount of time as possible.

“Last year we did it in 13 minutes,” said team captain Stephanie Campeau, the auto research network’s director of public affairs and communications.

Each team needs to raise $350, and as of Friday, the Accelerators had hit about 80 per cent of their goal.

Team members spent their lunch hour last Friday training by climbing the stairs in the university’s new Ed Lumley Centre for Engineering Innovation. Peter Frise, AUTO21’s CEO and scientific director, said being involved with the event is a great way to promote team work and for people to get the added bonuses associated with exercise.

Team members include Frise, Campeau, Lauren McDonald, Michelle Watters, Fedela Falkner, Lori DeLorenzo, Bradley MacPhail and Mary Anne Henderson.
